Senior Dog Health

Help your aging dog live longer, more comfortably, with practical changes at home and at the vet.

When does 'senior' start?

Small breeds: ~10 years. Medium: ~8. Large/giant: ~6–7. Twice-yearly vet checks become important.

Mobility & joints

Weight management is the #1 lever. Add joint supplements (glucosamine/chondroitin, omega-3) and discuss NSAIDs or Adequan/Librela with your vet.

Cognitive changes

Watch for disorientation, sleep changes, and altered interactions (DISHA signs). Prescription diets, supplements, and enrichment all help.

Diet shifts

Senior dogs benefit from highly digestible protein, joint support, and often fewer calories. Don't restrict protein unless prescribed.

Comfort at home

Orthopedic beds, rugs on slippery floors, ramps for cars/sofas, and night lights for vision changes make a big difference.
