Sleeping & containment

  • Crate (sized for adult size with a divider)
  • Crate pad or blanket
  • Exercise pen for safe play areas
  • Baby gates

Food & water

  • Puppy-appropriate food (same brand the breeder/shelter used initially)
  • Stainless steel food and water bowls
  • Slow-feeder if your pup eats fast
  • Storage container with airtight seal

Potty & cleanup

  • Enzymatic cleaner (Nature's Miracle or similar)
  • Potty pads (optional, for apartments)
  • Poop bags and holder
  • Towels you don't mind sacrificing

Walking & ID

  • Adjustable flat collar
  • ID tag with phone number

  • Vet appointment within first week
  • Vaccination schedule
  • Heartworm and flea/tick prevention
  • Pet insurance research

Training

  • Treat pouch
  • Small training treats (pea-sized)
  • Clicker (optional)
  • Puppy class signup (8–16 weeks is critical socialization window)

Puppy-proofing

  • Cover or move electrical cords
  • Secure trash cans
  • Remove toxic plants (lilies, sago palm, etc.)
  • Childproof cabinet latches
  • Put away shoes and small objects
