Online Vet Services
Telehealth has expanded rapidly for pets. Here's when it works and when you still need a clinic.
Good fits for telehealth
- Minor skin or eye issues that aren't worsening
- Behavioral questions and training advice
- Nutrition and weight management coaching
- Follow-up after a recent in-person visit
- "Should I be worried?" triage at 2 am
When you need an in-person vet
- Any emergency (breathing trouble, collapse, severe vomiting, suspected poisoning) — go to an ER
- Anything requiring a prescription medication (varies by state)
- Lameness, lumps, or anything needing palpation or imaging
- Vaccinations and dental cleaning
What it costs
Typical US telehealth consults run $30–$80. Some pet insurance plans include unlimited virtual visits.
